Is India the only nation being singled out?? ... Books, movies and almost all popular forms of art have unitedly starting to dish out the same stuff to Indians world over..
Slumdog Millionaire started it all... followed up very dutifully by the
Brtish in giving the Bookers Prize to The White Tiger..Is it that those pieces of art are being given the status of a magnum opus just because they portray India in the "best"(i.e. the most derogatory) possible way???
I know it might seem very condescending especially to "defy" something as prestigious as the Oscars and the Bookers....Frankly a Pretty gut wrenching experience as a mere onlooker..Being Insulted over n over by the person belonging to the same country ...
What for heaven's sake is wrong with morality???? The writer feels very much trapped inside this vicious whatever and refers it to the "coop"..
Slums being the highlight in the movie mentioned and the way it was screened was great though! ...No doubts ..
But is that for what we need to feel happy about?? do we need to stay contended with this Sort of shit ???
India is booming..a world power in the making... We definitely need not be projected in this demeaning way. A country full of inequalities..a land of no opportunities isn't all about this land..That is a pretty cynical view..
I especially appreciate a film like New York and hold it as high as Lagaan in my perspective-the one about which i have been blabbing about..Both these movies throw the same crap that they have been dishing out to us..They expose the faulty ways of the English Rule in one and the other shows the FBI in poor light for once.. Let these movies be cheered for once.. and let movies like Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding do the talking for once..
P.S. Excuse me if all I end up making is some childish tantrum..but sure pour in ur views if Im making anywer near a point!!
